Hunt Refinery emits the highest level of nitrogen oxides among Tuscaloosa County industries, according to data from the Alabama Department of Environmental Management. Not all nitrogen oxide from industries directly results in the creation of ground-ozone. But when it reacts with other contaminants and sunlight, nitrogen oxide is harmful to the lungs and pulmonary system.
