Normal Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 8 AM to 5 PM

Job Summary: Under limited supervision, assists the director in the day-to-day operations of the Emergency Management Program. Typical duties may include maintaining training calendar; developing community-wide exercises to involve a whole-community approach to disaster response and recovery using the Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP) standards; prepares quarterly training and exercise reports and other training documentation for submission to Alabama EMA and HSEEP; attend meetings, conferences, and training in and out of County/State in order to learn new information; prepare plans that outline operation producers to be used in response to disasters or emergencies; develop maintain and evaluate disaster response plans for Tuscaloosa County; evaluates emergency planning for partner agencies and facilities; response to incidents as needed; other duties as assigned. Some travel may be required.

Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university; Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license; ability to work outside of normal work schedule, including overnight, weekends, and holidays as necessary.

Required Skills and Knowledge: Candidate must have excellent written and oral communication skills; proofreading; editing; and formatting skills; be proficient with the Microsoft Suite and Google Apps; able to adapt and react to quickly-changing emergency situations; demonstrates flexible and efficient time management and ability to prioritize workload.

Preferred Qualifications: Prefer degree in Emergency Management or related field; one-year office experience; working knowledge of HSEEP standards; good organization skills.

Pre-Employment Requirements: Prior to hiring, the candidate must successfully pass a pre­-employment background investigation and drug screen and complete an office skills test.

Medical Examination: Individuals selected for appointment must meet the established medical and physical standards for the class of work. The medical examination must be by one of the physicians designated by the Personnel Board.

Moving/Relocation Expenses are NOT authorized.
